As an aspiring journalist, Sicily (Yixiao) Xiao (she/they) believes in the power of journalism and wants to bring social good to society. Sicily’s intercultural background in China and USA and interdisciplinary background in mathematics and music enables her to think about questions uniquely and innovatively.
Sicily is now an business development intern and ESG fellow at Impending Bloom. She was the renovations and real estate investing research intern at Ameliora Properties at Chicago, IL, focusing on sustainable real estate solutions, and journalism intern at ClevelandClassical.com at Cleveland, OH, focusing on music criticism.
Sicily is also the VP for Communications at the Graduate and Professional Student Government at UNC-Chapel Hill. Here, she leads a gorgeous communications team, manages social media accounts, publishes newsletters, and works on media requests.
Sicily is an MA student in Media and Communication with concentration in journalism at UNC Hussman School of Journalism and Media. She earned her bachelor’s degree at Oberlin College with a major in mathematics and a minor in music.
Beyond journalism, Sicily spends most of her time with her cat, Liz, or playing the piano. She is also a passionate traveler with her footprints spreading around the world.
